Selling or letting a property is rarely just a financial decision. Often, it also marks a new chapter in life: an inheritance, a separation, a move, retirement, or saying goodbye to a place that was home for many years.

In situations like these, professional marketing is not enough. You need someone who listens, understands the situation, gives sound economic advice and keeps the overall picture in view. That is exactly how I see my role as a real estate agent.

Responsibility starts long before the sale

My career began in healthcare. As a medical practice assistant, I learned to deal with people responsibly, including when situations are stressful or emotional. Care, reliability and discretion were simply part of everyday work. This experience still shapes the way I work today.

While studying International Business Administration, I realised that I wanted to combine economics with working directly with people. Alongside my studies, I completed training as a business coach. It still helps me to listen well and to guide conversations in which several people have to reach a decision together. I found this combination of business and people in real estate. Behind every property there is a personal story, which is why every decision deserves individual attention.

Experience builds confidence

Before founding By Birnstiel, I worked as a real estate agent in the Zurich region for a Swiss real estate company active across regions, with mandates in a number of cantons. Over my career, I have handled more than 100 lettings and sold properties ranging from individual homes to complete new-build projects.

One observation has shaped me in particular: some properties sell quickly and at a good price, while others stay on the market for months and are finally sold below their value. The reason rarely lies in the property itself. It almost always lies in the preparation and in the decisions made before and during the marketing. This is where my work comes in.

My business background does not show in jargon, but in concrete questions:

• Which offer brings not only an attractive price but also the greatest certainty of a successful completion?
• Which risks should be identified and resolved early?

With By Birnstiel, I deliberately built a business with personal responsibility at its heart. Owners should know who their contact person is, who represents their interests and who is at their side throughout the entire process.

For me, personal responsibility comes before taking on as many mandates as possible at once. Only then is there room for careful preparation, direct communication and decisions that suit your situation.
